MOUNTAIN MANOR VACATION HOME

THE ARKANSAS RIVER VALLEY

This portion of the Arkansas River Valley is known to locals and outsiders as well as “The Banana Belt.” This peculiar nickname comes from the unique climate characteristics created by the mountain ranges that border three sides of the area. Lacking true meteorological expertise, we can only give you a superficial description of how the mountains trap warmth in the valley during the winter. Salida receives only 50 inches of snowfall per year. Monarch Ski Resort, just up the road from Mountain Manor, on the other hand, boasts over 400 inches, the second largest amount in the entire state. Rainfall in the Valley is only 10-12 inches per year, with 330 days per year of sunshine, and summer humidity rarely exceeding 20-30%. Though the climate is dry, the location in the Valley and the rich watering from the mountain snow runoff create a lushness not found in many other South/Central Colorado locations.
